- Introduction
Modern automobiles use Electronic Control Units (ECU) to regulate
throttle position, fuel injection and vehicle speed. Over speeding is a
major cause of road accidents in sensitive zones such as school areas,
industrial premises and residential zones. This project demonstrates an
RFID based automatic speed limiting system which regulates vehicle speed
based on its location on the road by detecting RFID tags installed in
different speed-regulated zones.
- Objectives
- To design an automatic speed limiting system.
- To regulate vehicle speed based on location.
- To simulate ECU based throttle control.
- To implement RFID based zone detection.
- To prevent over speeding automatically.
- Working Principle
RFID tags are placed at specific road zones such as Industrial Area (40
km/h), Residential Area (60 km/h) and School Zone (20 km/h). When the
vehicle reaches these zones, the RFID reader detects the tag and updates
the speed limit automatically. The ECU compares the throttle speed with
the assigned zone limit and restricts motor speed using PWM control. If
the driver attempts to exceed the predefined speed limit, the ECU
automatically reduces throttle input to maintain safe speed.
- Detailed Features of the Project
- Automatic speed regulation without driver intervention.
- Location-based intelligent speed control using RFID technology.
- Real-time detection of speed zones.
- PWM based throttle control for smooth speed limiting.

- Implementation in real-time smart traffic management systems.
- Wireless data transmission for centralized monitoring.
- Integration with IoT for remote vehicle speed control.
- Automatic speed regulation based on traffic density.
- Use in autonomous vehicles for intelligent navigation.
- Cloud-based data logging for vehicle monitoring.

- Conclusion
The RFID based ECU Speed Limiter System successfully demonstrates
automatic regulation of vehicle speed based on its travelling zone. This
system enhances road safety, minimizes accidents due to over speeding and
provides an intelligent solution for real-time speed monitoring in
sensitive areas.
